Hello friends, travelers, gnomes, and lovers of cozy, strange, tavern rpg games! I'm Rick, and I've been working on Everybody's Stranger for [redacted] ... a long time. And now that I'm getting closer to having a demo of the game for you to play, I wanted to start sharing fun bits and pieces of what you can expect.

You've probably already seen the trailer or Steam page, so I won't recap what the game's about, but instead share with you some of the super-secret, gritty, behind-the-scenes nuances of making a video game.

My intention is for this devlog to be for people who may end up playing my game (I hope!), but every once in a while I'll dive into some of the more technical details of making a game in Unity.

Where to start...

Pixel Art

Creating memorable pixel art animation can be just as hard as crafting a 3D-modeled scene. And, lucky for me, I found a fantastic artist to work with. He's creating all of the character animations and many aspects of the world. If you didn't know already, a single pixel art animation can sometimes have hundreds of frames. Here's Dave the Wizard, fumbling through an experiment like always:

And the spritesheet for it:

I'll be sharing new characters as they are added to the game, as well as some that are already living in the world. Speaking of... let's meet Hans.

Character Showcase: Hans

Class: Swamp Hermit

Favorite Dish: Swamp Eel Stew

Description: Former chicken farmer Hans moved out to the swamp to get away from city life and live amongst the eels, as he likes to say. He's a sweetheart if you manage to get on his good side. He is fascinated with swamp wildlife and the tasty grub that can come from it.

Voice Actor: Hans is being voiced by my neighbor, Aaron, and we've had quite a fun few evenings recording his lines in the makeshift sound booth in my "studio." Here's a glimpse:

What's Next?

Which of the 40,000 things do you want to know about? :) No, but really, Everybody's Stranger will soon be making an appearance on TikTok and YouTube, and I'll send out an update when those channels go live.

In the mean time, these blog posts will continue both on the official Tyrillion website as well as on Steam.

I look forward to sharing the making of Everybody's Stranger with you.

Love and teleporting chickens,

-Rick
